BELL NOVELTY RECORDS
A personal label of Benny Bell. Copyright dates refer to the written material not the discs themselves. The earliest advertising for the label appeared in May of 1943. Produced by Specialty Sales of New York, NY., it was more of a do-it-yourself label since the recordings were made in Bell’s basement. Apparently Benny felt like a winner after VE Day as at least one of his 1945 releases appeared with the imprint Bell Blue Ribbon series. In 1946 Bell Records relocated to 1658 Broadway, NY. (Same address as Radio Novelty), in 1947 credited to Empire Coin Machine Sales, 799 Coney Island Ave., Brooklyn, NY. Later that year at 2382 Pitkin Ave., Brooklyn. In the 1950's the address was P.O. Box 55, Brooklyn. Known range 120-963. Powder blue label with dark blue or black print. Probably responsible for Zion as well
