Lil JOHNSON Blues singer who enjoyed some notoriety for her risqué race records in the 1930’s. Two of her most suggestive sides later appeared on party labels. The ARC issue on Banner, Melotone, Oriole, Perfect and Romeo labels numbered 6-05-58 was withdrawn three days after release. No word on the Vocalion issue but consecutive matrix C-1288-1 from the March 4 date was subtitled The New Hot Nuts upon its release on Vocalion 03241 a bit later in 1936. It was clearly recorded with the expectation that a substitute might be required. The Kicks pressing dates from ca.1943 and all party releases are derived from it. -acc. by piano, guitar and string bass. American Record Corp. studios, Chicago, Feb. 12, 1936.
