JOHN RYAN RECORD
The U.S. Record Corp. was foundering in Aug. 1940 and its Varsity label was taking some heat for several double entendre recordings. A couple of popular John Ryan numbers were repressed with this blue & gold label. US master numbers were obliterated and numbers 301 and 302 were the only releases. They sold well and are more common than the originals. Inexplicably, “Gambler’s Blues” on 301 is an early ‘thirties Crown recording by Frankie Marvin with Roy Smeck’s Trio.
