A Piano Virginall                FLAMES unnumbered
Seduction Scene                FLAMES unnumbered
Ode To Sappho                FLAMES unnumbered
This album has not been auditioned by your author and one suspects it is all instrumental, more proto-lounge music than party material. It is noteworthy that there is very little material in this book that could be characterized as erotica. Only a real quickie could be made to fit into the three-and-a-half minutes available on a big ten inch 78 RPM record.

Beatrice LILLIE
Real name Constance Sylvia Gladys Munston.. Born 1893 (or May 29, 1894) in Toronto Canada, died Jan 20, 1989. Popular on both the London and New York stages, it was The Third Little Show in which Beatrice Lillie sang the vintage 1917 "There Are Fairies At the Bottom of My Garden" along with Noel Coward's "Mad Dogs and Englishmen." The show ran for 17 weeks. Billed as "the funniest woman in the world", her knack for maintaining a Victorian decorum amidst vulgarity was often imitated. She made many recordings and could hardly be classified as a blue performer. These are listed for their slightly saucy content on a specialist label. Her rendition of "There Are Fairies at the Bottom of Our Garden" [..."and one of them is ME!"] became a virtual anthem of the gay community in the 1930's, words by Rose Fyleman music by Liza Lehmann (1917 Chappell & Co). Snoops the Lawyer dates from 1919.

--Sam Walsh at the piano. Columbia studios, New York City July 3, 1934.
